About From Lisbon With Love

Welcome to From Lisbon With Love! A podcast about real stories of love, laughter, and life in Lisbon — from women who have left it all behind. We share real stories about moving to Lisbon, starting over and figuring life out along the way. We talk love, dating, friendships, breakups, healing, growing, all of it. Basically, the stuff we usually talk about over coffee ☕️ or vinho 🍷. If you’re thinking about moving abroad, already here or just love honest conversations with heart: you’re in the right place! Learn more about our story here.

We hope you enjoy our seventh episode about what moving to a new country alone taught us. Don’t forget to rate the podcast and leave us a review at your favorite podcast platform, like Spotify – it will help more hearts find our little corner of the world.

The challenges of moving to a new country alone

Moving to a new country is a big life event, especially when you’re moving alone. There’s a lot of things that you’ll have to deal with, such as language barriers, logistical bureaucratic hurdles, culture shock, managing finances, loneliness, homesickness and so on. The challenges you have to face with moving to a new country are, of course, different for everyone. Also you might deal with feeling guilty for ‘leaving’ your family behind and not being able to attain all important family gatherings anymore.

But on the bright side, moving to a new country alone is also very exciting and it’ll teach you a lot about life and about yourself! Moving alone gently forces you to be independent and be strong. Navigating change and facing challenges alone leads to personal growth and a deeper understanding of yourself and other cultures. You learn to adapt yourself and build a new support system. What’s also very interesting, is that you’ll see your own country from another perspective.

How moving to a new country changed us

Moving to a new country was a huge step out of our comfortzone, especially since we’re both introverts. If you want to hear all about the challenges we had to face on this journey: we dedicated a whole episode to our experiences with moving abroad as an introvert.

But after all, we’re super happy that we took the leap. It helped us grow a lot as a person, build more resilience and gain more trust in ourselves. We can face everything that comes our way! Also moving to a new country changed us in ways we didn’t expect: we tell you all about it in this episode.

If you’re curious to hear what moving to a new country alone taught us, this is for you! Listen our episode on your favorite podcast app (we’re on Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Podcasts and Podimo) or use the audio player above.
