About From Lisbon With Love

Welcome to From Lisbon With Love! A podcast about real stories of love, laughter, and life in Lisbon β€” from women who have left it all behind. We share real stories about moving to Lisbon, starting over and figuring life out along the way. We talk love, dating, friendships, breakups, healing, growing, all of it. Basically, the stuff we usually talk about over coffee β˜•οΈ or vinho 🍷. If you’re thinking about moving to Lisbon, already here or just love honest conversations with heart: you’re in the right place! Learn more about our story here.

How living in Portugal changed how we view life

Living in Portugal changed our mindset and the way we view and live our lives in ways we didn’t expect. The slower pace fits us both really well, but coming from a country that’s all about (toxic) productivity, it did take some time to adjust to this new, more chill lifestyle. In the episode we discuss how our daily routine and the way we approach life is different since living in Portugal.

We struggled with feeling guilty for doing nothing or taking some more time off, when there’s always something to do (especially when you’re a business owner). Luckily that changed but it’s still something we need to be aware of, so we don’t slip into our old habits.

What we love most about Portugal

In the episode we also discuss what we love most about the Portuguese people, lifestyle and mindset. One thing that stands out for us that it’s all about connection. Spending time with family and friends is a number one priority and people are genuinely interested in how you’re doing, even if they don’t know you that well.

Everywhere you can feel the warmth of the Portuguese people, which also made us feel very welcome (and it still does!). Strangers talk to each other and help each other without asking. Also the respect for the elderly people is huge. People just care and we love that!

Moving to Portugal: Why we did it

We moved to Portugal for various reasons, which we already discussed in the first episode. If you’re curious why we moved to Lisbon, definitely listen this episode! Honestly: it was the best choice we ever made and we still enjoy every second of living in Portugal.

Moving abroad: what to expect

The decision to move abroad is not an easy one to make. Moving abroad is a lot of fun, but it can also be an emotional rollercoaster, especially if you move abroad by yourself. You will experience strong personal growth through forced independence, navigating a new language and cultural immersion. You will develop a lot of self-sufficiency by managing (basically) everything on your own. Also you might have to deal with feeling homesick and battling loneliness (especially in the beginning of your adventure), which can be extremely challenging.

It can really influence your day to day life and make it harder to function and enjoy your new life. We also made an episode about how living abroad changed us and what it taught us.
