The reality of living abroad alone
Oftentimes, living abroad alone is extremely glamorized. Although living abroad alone is very exciting, it’s definitely not always easy. Being responsible for basically everything, like finding your way in your new country, building a new social circle and dealing with all the paperwork can be very overwhelming. Even simple everyday tasks, like grocery shopping, administration and scheduling appointments, can be challenging in a new country.
On the other hand, figuring everything out alone can lead to greater confidence and broaden your worldview. When you’ve overcome the biggest hurdles, you’ll realize that living abroad alone really is amazing and that it creates endless possibilities.
How we experience living abroad alone
One thing we absolutely love the most about living abroad alone is that it gives us so much freedom – something that suits us both very well ;-). We are so incredibly lucky that we can live our lives the way we want: something that we’ll never take for granted. Living abroad alone taught us so much already. Not only about life, but also about ourselves. If you’re curious to hear all about it, we dedicated a whole episode (ep. 7) to how moving to a new country changed us and in what way.
But on days that our energy is low, we’re sick or we’re simply not feeling it, it can definitely be hard to be far away from our families and friends back home. Luckily we’ve also build a great friend circle here in Lisbon, so we never have to feel alone.
